Below are excerpts from an article in the weekend edition of the Washington Post. Many experts agree that planet Earth is in danger unless we make a huge effort to protect natural resources. Might the government impose fess for things we are used to receiving for free, like clean water? Although this would be an effort to help fund the protection of our natural resources, says one environmental advocate, how would this affect the poor? (photo by aussiegall)

This comment was made for our Save and Sign group, by our high school Biology teacher. She is glad to answer any questions we might have concerning the environment! Her comment:
I am interested to see how the vote turns out, though I can probably make a good prediction. Most people will probably vote for the rainforest- however, I voted for oceans. They control the whole climate of the planet! Not to mention coral reefs, which hold over 75% of the Earth’s carbon, are a very fragile environment that rely on the health of the oceans. If those coral reefs die... And that carbon is released... Well you can just imagine how hot it will get with that much more Carbon (CO2) added to the atmosphere!
Your prediction was right on. I voted for the rainforest on first thought but after reading your comment it caused me to really think how important the oceans are to the planet. Without the oceans, planet Earth as we know it would not exist.
Yeah, the oceans are pretty important when you bring up that point. Thanks! (I voted for the polar regions.)
This arctical told me that I voted well I voted for the Polar Regeions!
